Native Monstera

Monstera

Native Monstera: Rhaphidophora pinnata

  • This is a large-leaved climbing plant found both in highland and lowland rainforest, often used as a popular decorative indoor plant.

  • Monsteras are root climbers, which means that as well as their normal soil roots, their main stems develop long and flexible cane-like roots that securely attach them to a supporting tree.

  • Monstera leaves of young plants are entire, but as the plant matures they become attractively divided.

  •  Many Monstera plants produce large white coloured hooded flowers that are followed by big fleshy fruits. Some of these are edible when ripe and considered a delicacy.
