Damon Ramsey works as a biologist guide leading general nature, wildlife and education trips. His broad aim in life has been to experience as many ecosystems and observe as much wildlife on our planet as he can. This has taken him to Central America, South America, the United States, southern Africa, India, South-east Asia, and of course all the states of Australia. This love of travel and wildlife has come together to result in a career of Natural History interpretation. To qualify for such work, he studied a two year Advanced Certificate in Outdoor Guiding in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. He then completed his biology degree (majoring in Zoology) at Australia's only two tropical universities in Darwin and Cairns. This has also led to various voluntary and paid work as a field assistant in various scientific projects, with the subjects ranging from butterflies to bandicoots, cassowaries, rainforest tree ecology, sea turtles, goannas, finches, bats, frogs, wading birds and plant surveys. As a guide he has led various trips, including aboriginal rock art tours, 4WD bush tours, hikes and bicycle trips, but specializes in biology and nature based tours. He is currently based in Cairns, North Queensland working for local companies, such as Australasian Adventure and Frankland Islands Cruise and Dive, and contracting out for Zoo, Education and Bird-watching trips around Australia. He has given lectures on biodiversity for alumni groups, and a series of lectures on wildlife tourism at James Cook University. He has also produced a series of handbooks to Australia's ecosystems, including a 'Handbook to Australian Tropical Rainforest' and a 'Handbook to Tropical Pacific islands' and is working on several more in the series.
