WHITE-BELLIED SEA-EAGLE: Haliaeetus leucogaster

  • A large white bird of prey with grey wings.

  • In flight its body and leading half of the wing are white, while the trailing edge of the wings are black, with a short, rounded fanned tail.

  • The female is usually larger than the male

  • It is often seen above coastal rainforest.

  • Feeds on small mammals, fish, turtles, snakes and crustaceans

  • Like the Wedge Tailed Eagle, this bird builds very large nests (up to two metres) of sticks, bark and leaves; high up in trees.

  • Has a cackling call.
