SPANGLED DRONGO: Dicrurus bracteatus
Now considered essentially a giant
Australasian flycatcher, 'Drongos' are a group of birds found in the old world
tropics. They are usually black with elaborate tail adornments. The one species
in Australia, the 'Spangled Drongo' Dicrurus bracteatus, is large and
glossy black with shiny red eyes and a 'fish' tail. It has several calls,
including whistles and scissor like grating. Many individuals migrate to New
Guinea in the winter and return to the lower altitude rainforest to breed in the
summer. |
