Roth's Tree Frog: Litoria rothii

  • This is a medium sized frog, usually grey or brown, but with the ability to change colour depending on the situation.

  •  It's most distinct and consistent colour is found on the back of the thighs, which are bright yellow with black patches.

  • The call is identical to it's relative, the Peron's Tree Frog, of which this is the northern, tropical equivalent and is usually described as a 'maniacal cackling', or as a sheep's bleating.

  • It can be found anywhere with water in the tropics and is often found in or near sugar cane and other fields and backyards. Occasionally, they turn up in houses and may hide in cupboards (as pictured), but they seem especially fond of outside toilet blocks at camping grounds and such places.
