Cottonwood/Beach Hibiscus: Hibiscus tiliaceus

  • Is the most commonly seen species of this family associated with tropical rainforest in Australia.

  • It is usually a small tree with heart-shaped leaves.

  • It produces a large flower that usually only lasts for a day, goes red, the drops.

  • The plant is commonly along the Cape Tribulation road, in the rainforest along the tropical coast and along larger tidal rivers such as the Daintree and Russel/Mulgrave, where the flowers are often seen floating on the surface of the water.
